Installing Getbhavcopy and downloading data using Getbhavcopy.
First step is to Download Getbhavcopy application.
Extract the zip file to a directory of you choice. For this example I assume you extract it in C:\Getbhavcopy. Once done the directory will contain following files:
- GetBhavCopy.exe: The Getbhavcopy executable.
- niftylist.txt: NSE NIFTY symbol list, used to calculate volume.
- jrniftylist.txt: NSE JUNIOR NIFTY symbol list, used to calculate volume.
- EODdata: An empty directory where Getbhavcopy will download data from NSE server.
Double click Getbhavcopy.exe to execute the aplication. The Options tab will be displayed requiring you to enter three options. Getbhavcopy will not work if these options are not provided
- Destination Directory: Here you need to provice the path where EODdata is extracted. For our example it will be C:\Getbhavcopy\EODdata.
- NIFTY symbol list: Navigate and provide the path to file niftylist.txt here. For our example it is C:\Getbhavcopy\niftylist.txt
- Jr NIFTY symbol list: Navigate and provide the path to file jrniftylist.txt here. For our example it is C:\Getbhavcopy\jrniftylist.txt
Click "Apply" to save the settings. Once done you will be taken to the Download tab.
Select Start date and End date for the range of days you want to download the EOD data. For downloading data for one day keep both start date and end date same i.e. to download data for 4-JAN-2007, bot start and end date should be "4 Jan 2007".
Click "Download Bhavcopy" button to start downloading the data. The files will be downloaded in the destination directory you specified in the options tab.The download completes only when you see the message "Completed Downloading EOD Data".
